Cafe Review: Told A Story Roastery (톨드어스토리) and Bom 'In (봄'in) in Gung-Dong, Daejeon

Two for one! I’m reviewing two cafes today because actually these are literally right across the street from another.

Both are located in the Gung-dong area, right next to KAIST. I’m in this area all the time because it’s some of the best cafes in Daejeon. (Here is another good one—Gabae Roasters.)

Bom ‘In

The first is Bom ‘In, which is a tiny white bakery with glass walls. It boasts personal-sized quiches.

Price: 5,500 won for hand drip; 4.5-6,000 won for lattes; 3,200 won for kaya toast

  • Hours: Every day 11am-8:00pm, closed Sundays

  • Address: 대전 유성구 농대로8번길 1 1층

As always, let’s rate it. Bolded means recommended. This café is best for:

Good brew | Tea | Socializing | Studying | Aesthetics | Desserts | Alcohol | Food |

As I walked in, I encountered a lady who was sitting at the only table, her fluffy white dog excitedly wanting my attention. She let me pet them :’)

After some good pets, I bought a ratatouille quiche, thinking I’d get eggy veggy goodness. It was instead cheesy meaty goodness—delicious, but a lucky thing I’m not a vegetarian. The other options—bulgogi, spicy chicken, potato and bacon—also have meat.

For vegetarians, you can try their egg tarts and mini Philadelphia pie cheesecakes.

Here’s the menu for your quiche cravings:

Told A Story

Directly after, I went to the café right next door: Told A Story. Someone recommended this place to me as “the best coffee in all of Daejeon.” So, of course, I had to go.

Price: 3,000 won for espresso; 4,000 won for lattes

  • Hours: Every day 10:30am-6:30pm, closed Sundays

  • Address: 대전 유성구 농대로8번길 2

As always, let’s rate it. Bolded means recommended. This café is best for:

Good brew | Tea | Socializing | Studying | Aesthetics | Desserts | Alcohol | Food |

There’s two parts to the building—an entire room dedicated to their on-site roastery and the café. The café is small, only two tables and a handful of seats. The other half of the room is literally half-filled with giant bags of coffee beans.

I ordered an iced vanilla latte, one of their specialties, and y’all it was REALLY good coffee. The vanilla wasn’t overly sweet, the coffee was rich without bitterness. I had to hold my self back from inhaling it down in one go.

I ate the two together, which was…an interesting mix. I’d probably save the quiche for later next but I was super hungry lol.

Here’s the menu. I haven’t tried their hand drip or other drinks, but it seems the latte is popular.

I have no idea what the King Americano is but I’d be willing to take it on, I bet.
