Cafe Review: Gabae Roasters (가배로스터스) in Daejeon

Right next to KAIST in the Gung-dong area is a ton of tiny, adorable, and cheap cafes. Students will flock to this area after classes to sip coffee late into the night. My favorite of them is Gabae Roasters.

  • Price: 4,300 for hand drip; 4.8-4,300 won for lattes; 5,500 won for desserts

  • Hours: Every day 10am-10:00pm; closed Saturdays

  • Address: 대전 유성구 어은로42번길 21-10 1층 가배로스터스

As always, let’s rate it. Bolded means recommended. This café is best for:

Good brew | Tea | Socializing | Studying | Aesthetics | Desserts | Alcohol | Food |

I like this place so much because weirdly, it has this diner aesthetic. I’m not sure if it comes across in pictures, but it feels retro.

The interior is an open space with big windows and bigger tables. There are lots of outlets available for your greedy electronics.

This isn’t exactly a study café so don’t feel like you can’t chat with your friends—but you’ll see a lot of students catching up on work.

The best thing to get here is their salty cream latte (소금커피라떼) or americano. It comes hot or cold.

They also have cold brew which is…not uncommon in Korea, but not at every cafe either. For desserts, you can get tiramisu and chocolate cake. They offer takeout for 500 won extra.

If you’re planning to come to KAIST or Daejeon in general, check this place out! I’m not sponsered. I wish I was; I want more salted lattes.
