Cafe Review: Interview (인터뷰맨션) in Daejeon

This week, my coteachers and I went out for lunch. We ate pufferfish (복어)—interesting, delicious—and then drove to Interview Mansion, one of Daejeon’s most instagram-able cafes. I’d been wanting to go to this one for a while!

  • Price: 4,500 for espresso; 5-7,000 won for lattes; 5-8,000 won for desserts

  • Hours: Every day 10am-11:30pm

As always, let’s rate it. Bolded means recommended. This cafe is best for:

Good brew | Tea | Socializing | Studying | Aesthetics | Desserts | Alcohol | Food |

We expected it’d be quiet since it was like 3pm on a workday. Definitely not. Nearly every table was taken. Luckily, there’s so much space, since this cafe is more like an open campus than anything.

You walk in and to your right, there’s their on-site roastery. Across from that is the building where you order, with a second story for seats. Outside are more tables overlooking the nearby creek, and behind those is another building (that looks like a fishbowl with all the glass).

Almost all of us got the Einspanner (Vienna coffee), as it’s the best here. I got mine white (latte base) while the rest got theirs black (americano base). It was sweet but not overly so (especially for me, I don’t like super sweet stuff). I recommend that whole-heartedly, but I’d love to come back and try their rose latte.

They also serve brownies, scones, and other little treats—but most were sold out. They also retail-sell their cold brew and milk teas.

We ordered and sat outside, enjoying the last warmth of 2020. There’s some really great people-watching to be had here, as everyone comes with their friends, in their instagram-best.

My final verdict is that this cafe is pretty popular—perhaps one of the most in Daejeon—but I don’t think it’s overrated. Maybe a bit more than your local mom-n-pop shop, but you’re paying for the aesthetics. And they seem to take coffee pretty seriously.

Here’s their menu! Thanks for reading, as always.
